If you are travelling in Austria and need to fuel up, you might be interested in the following piece of information: on the initiative of the Austrian Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth, the Austrian regulator Energie – Control Austria has set up a special website, which gives consumers the possibility to check where they can buy the cheapest fuel near the place they are currently at. The website has been set up with the aim to improve the transparency and competition of fuel providers in Austria, which would consequently also decrease the prices of fuel.
Go to the website http://www.spritpreisrechner.at and enter the place where you are planning to stop at the petrol station, as well as what type of fuel you would like to buy. You can choose between diesel fuel and the 95-octane petrol. The search engine will list the prices of the requested fuel at five best-priced petrol stations in the place you have chosen. All the other petrol stations that have ranked outside of the top five will also be listed, however without the information about the price.
The website is in German and also provides information about the opening times of individual petrol stations and contact details; petrol station locations are also marked on the map.
We have specifically looked into the prices of petrol and diesel in the Austrian town of Graz. We have found out the prices of diesel at the top five petrol stations listed as the ones with best prices range between 1.289 EUR and 1.349 EUR per litre, while the prices of 95-octane petrol are between 1.349 and 1.419 EUR per litre. By purchasing a full tank of fuel at the petrol station with the best price, it is possible to save up to almost 3 EUR.
